I used to be a editor over at the Open Directory Project and edited nearly 100 areas until a overzealous editall or whatever they call them over there killed my editors account with no warning. That was about 2 years ago. What is very funny and also sad was that I was solely responsible in editing several sections that had nearly 5000 links and about half of them have not been touched in 2 years. I have the screen captures to prove it.
Here is a link to the US Navy section I edited all by myself for nearly 2 years. Luckily they finally added some new editors and the area is getting updated. But there are other areas that have not been updated since I was kicked to the curb.
I was quite pissed at the time as there was never any reason given as to why I was kicked to the curb. But I swear it was a personal vendetta, but anyway that was a long time ago and I do not need to get on that rant again.
Seems one of their editors has launched a blog that is trying to keep the general public and it’s editors up to date on happenings. I just wish someone would approve Geek News Central’s request to be added. It has only been about 5 months since we put in the request.
I had the same experience. At one time I had added more then 3/4ths the links in the Oregon category, which was the second most populated (with links) state.
I took a ONE WEEK break, and when i tried to get back in, no-go. I was unable to get back in, and was unable to find out why I had been banned!
It’s no secret that editors are very cautious, many spend 1000’s of hours working on sections only to find themselves locked out without warning. It has also been widely rumored that companies have employees apply to be editors for the sole purpose of removing competitors listings.
