In early 2005 I decided to renew my education and I have been taking 2-3 college courses per semester, this is on top of everything else going on. Needless to say it has been a challenge, through everything I have been able to keep my GPA up pretty high, but this has resulted in some extremely long nights and lunch hours spent studying. I did take a single semester off when I wrote my book on Podcasting but otherwise I have been at it pretty much non-stop.
In the end hitting the books again at my age will pay off, although the pain of getting an education update at my age is something that I will likely never repeat, all in all though it’s refreshing to do it by choice and not because I have to. How many of you have done a education refresh, how did you classify the experience, and did it payoff in the end?
I’m 40 and I’ve been taking between 3 & 10 undergrad credits a semester for a year now. I’m working full time (I did the 10 credits one semester while I was part time) and planning on Grad school next year.
I’ve noticed a trend among my friends of a similar age. We all have had various careers but it’s only in the last 5 years, or so, that we’ve all really focused in on what we want to do “for the rest of our career”.
It’s hard to keep up sometimes but my motivation and ability to learn has actually imprvoed since my first time through college.
This summer I completed 18 credits (45 to go) at University of Miami’s Summer Session. I’m 33 and work in the sports television industry. By going during intersessions (a week in March) and summers I can finish by Summer ’08 and still keep my gig working 70-80 NHL telecasts each winter. By the way, I live in LA and drove out to UM and back.
