PowerDVD7 Review

When I was asked to review the PowerDVD 7 software package I really did not know what to expect because after all we’ve all been playing DVD’s on our computers for a while now and did not know how the viewing experience could be enhanced. I was mildly surprised and the time I took to review this product was worthwhile because I can tell these folks have worked real hard on this application..

What impressed me the most about CyberLinks new PowerDVD 7 was the new feature sets. They are definitely planning for the roll-out of the new Blu-Ray players as they have play back support for H.264 built into this new release.

I’m sure some of you may have your eyes one of the new UPnP media players. Well PowerDVD 7 supports access to audio and video files over these digital home network devices. Some of the new features also include five interface modes and new skins and colors, the revamped interface looks really nice. With “One Click” dialog looping you can quickly repeat a segment of content. If you are in a Airplane or in the car with no external power and your laptop battery is getting low the software has a “See it All” feature that actually speeds up the video so you can see the entire show before the battery dies.

The technical specifications of the PowerDVD 7 package is pretty impressive the feature set covered a 8 page information package with too many features to mention. PowerDVD7 is well worth the upgrade price of $19.95 if your one of the few PC users that don’t have PowerDVD already, they have a standard and deluxe version available for $49.95 and $69.95 respectively

There was one feature though I wanted to test. I had some home VHS videos that have been transfered to DVD, at the time of transfer the VHS tapes were in pretty bad shape. The information packed indicated there was a imaging enhancement feature, I wanted to see the difference in the video quality so as I adjusted the controls with the Imaging Enhancing feature which uses CLEV-2 Technology, and although the original videos were not very sharp the Image enhancement features cleaned up the video quite a bit and it worked pretty good.

You can check out a demo of the product on the CyberLink website. [CyberLink PowerDVD 7]
