  1. Todd,
New listener, enjoy the podcast. I hear a lot of negative remarks about Vista. I would only say that if Vista had the backward compatibility people say they want, then security in Windows would never improve. As for user controls, it’s little different from OSX or Linux so I don’t know what the big deal is. I use open Suse 10.2, Ubuntu, osX, xp, and now vista. They’re all great in some ways but overall Vista has a combination of features and security that is superior to any of them. Run IE 7 in protected mode and it is very secure. Steve Gibson said Vista will be the most secure operating system once the user control options are properly implemented. No one complained when Apple dropped support for OS9 so why do they complain about a lack of backward compatibility in Vista. Poor legacy software from 3rd party vendors is no reason to not advance the OS.
Anyway glad I heard Mike Smith mention what he listened to, that’s how I found your show. Good luck house hunting. FYI a 800 sq ft condo in a suburb of San Francisco in a nice area, goes for around $600,000 ! So I know how you feel.
    Good luck

  2. The Vista link sent in by a listener was not acurately described on your show. Microsoft has not given up on Vista and continues to say good things about it to this day. The article does not back up its assertion. I am a fan and normally you do a better job of looking into a story.

I agree that Microsoft is in denial but that is another issue.

    4/27/2007-wsj.com:
Microsoft reported a 65% jump in fiscal third-quarter earnings and projected better-than-expected results for fiscal 2008, pointing to solid gains for the Windows Vista operating system.
