Tiger Beta Testing!

Well Apple released a update for Tiger so I guess that means that the thousand of beta testers out their were able to tell Apple something about the bugs that they could not shake out before. It’s comical because people bitch about Microsoft but what has it been 2-3 weeks since the release and I am downloading a 40mb file full of fixes. Simply Amazing. [Apple]

I expect more from you then this. I wrote a long article explaining why you never install a new operating system until at least an upgrade or two to work out the bugs, you should know that without me telling you. Just think of all the third party software appas that still do not have a Tiger compatable version released. The first rule that any IT worth their weight in gummy bears knows is that you NEVER EVER install a new OS on a business critical machine.
That said, if/when Longhorn ever comes out I would expect you never to install it on a mission critical system. At least till a few bug fixes and more importantly all your third party software gets upgraded first. :-)

All software ships with both known and unknown bugs. Apple is no different. Software companies try to achieve a balance between holding back the release of a product and releasing a prduct with some minor and understood bugs.

Even with all the testing you can do, some issues are never seen before shipping.

I’m sure that Apple’s list of “postponed” issues is quite long and will be addressed with new revisions over the course of the year.

The only software that is 100% bug-free is the software developed by NASA for the flight-control system of the Space Shuttle.
