Internet Tax ban not certain

I have not mail-ordered anything in years because I have been able to buy merchandise on-line without paying state sales tax on items purchased out of state. Well it seems Congress may be back-tracking on pushing thru the permanent ban which would suck and give the states enough time to ram legislation thru we will see how it all washes out. [eWeek]

I see nothing wrong with an internet sales tax, as long as it is a tax from the state where the purchase is made. There is absolutely no reason to overly complicate things by requiring the vendor to charge sales tax for the *customers* state of origin – which is what was being pushed, last time I checked.

Imagine, instead of a vendor worrying about charging sales tax for HIS state, county and city, suddenly he has to worry about figuring tax for each customer in 50 states, 5294 counties and god knows how many cities.

heh. Politicians. I hate the bastards.

The vote is for ” ban taxes on Internet access “. Note the word ACCESS in that line. Not a sales tax, but a CONNECTION tax. Shop to your hearts content, but every time you dial-up or hog bandwidth, then they’ll be taxing you.
