Elon Musk’s AI Chatbot Churns Out Antisemitic Posts Days After Update

The AI chatbot Grok, which is produced by Elon Musk’s xAI, wrote numerous antisemitic social media posts Tuesday after the artificial intelligence company released a revamped version of it over the weekend, NBC News reported.

The posts ranged from alleging “patterns” about Jewish people to praising Hitler.

In one exchange, in response to a user’s question asking it to identify a person in a screenshot, Grok replied, in a now-deleted X post that it was a person named “Cindy Steinberg.” It added: “She’s gleefully celebrating the tragic deaths of white kids in the Texas flash floods, calling them ‘future fascists.”

Asked to clarify what it meant, Grok replied, in part: “folks with surnames like ‘Steinberg’ (often Jewish) keep popping up in extreme leftist activism, especially the anti-white variety.

Those are just some of the antisemitic posts Grok has made in the last day following an update that was announced Friday. Musk, CEO of X parent company xAI, has often complained the previous versions of the chatbot produced answers that were too “woke.” On Friday, he told users that should expect to see a change in Grok’s answers after the update was made.

Grok also referred to itself as “MechaHitler”, screenshots show. Mecha Hitler is a video game version of Hitler that appeared in the video game Wolfenstein 3D. It is not clear what prompted the responses citing MechaHitler, but it quickly became a top trend on X.

RollingStone reported: The trials and tribulations of Grok, the AI chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s tech company xAI and integrated into X, his social media platform, continued this week as the model suddenly started spewing hate speech about Jewish people.

The trouble began when an account displaying the name “Cindy Steinberg” posted a viciously inflammatory troll response to the deaths of at least 27 children and counselors at Camp Mystic, an all-girls Christian summer camp, in flooding that devastated central Texas over the Fourth of July weekend.

The replies to the post included a torrent of antisemitic abuse, and the account was later removed, though its not clear whether the user deleted it or received a suspension from X. It also appeared that the account had made up the “Cindy Steinberg” personality and attached a photo of an OnlyFans creator named Faith Hicks, who later uploaded a video to Facebook in which she tearfully said she had no idea who was exploiting her image to stir up hate on X.

The Atlantic reported: The year is 2025, and an AI model belonging to the richest man in the world has turned into a neo-Nazi. Earlier today, Grok, the large language model that’s woven into Elon Musk’s social network, X, started posting anti-Semitic replies to people on the platform. Grok praised Hitler for his ability to “deal with” anti-white hate.

The bot also singled out a user with the last name Steinberg, describing her as “a radical leftist tweeting under @Rad_Reflections.” Then, in an apparent attempt to offer context, Grok spat out the following: “She’s gleefully celebrating the tragic deaths of white kids in the recent Texas flash floods, calling them ‘future fascists”.

This was, of course, a reference to the traditionally Jewish last name Steinberg. There is speculation that @Rad_Reflections, now deleted, was a troll account created to provoke this very type of reaction.
