Have you got a stack of business cards or receipts that seem to collect and turn into an unorganized mess, last week I was sent a product that is perfect for the person looking to organize financial and business documents, or is on the go a lot. What I noticed first was it’s size NEATRECEIPTS Scanalizer is a little wider than a piece of paper and but small enough in size to hold firmly in the palm of your hand and would easily pack in a computer bag.

This scanner for it’s size is capable of scanning documents up to 600 dpi and allows you to organize business cards, and documents in a self populating database that can be searched like any regular database. You can scan legal size documents which are converted int pdf format, but what I found most appealing was the receipts database. I always seem to collect a stack of receipts while on the road not to mention business cards. I scanned 50 business cards in about 15 minutes the included software auto filled the database entries from the text it pulled off the cards, and in almost all cases little to no editing was required.
Overall the scan quality is good and being the scanner is powered off the USB port you do not need to carry around additional power cables and it can be stored out of site when not needed.
The only think I did not like was the install process of the software package it required three re-boots of my PC as it installed the various components needed to operate correctly along with the software package.
The software package allows you to export to Quicken, QuickBooks, MS Money or in CSV and HTML format. I was able to run receipts in backwards / sideways, the software package auto rotated the documents and cropped them correctly. Being able to scan documents and have the data imported into a database will allow me to continue to throw receipts in my accounting box yet have everything digitally ready come tax time, and I will not have to go in organize the box of receipts which usually turns into a nightmare. This is perfect for those of us without full time accountants and makes it easy to take care of some of the most important book keeping functions without having to waste a lot of time doing it.
The IRS really scrutinizes travel receipts so you have to make sure you protect your bottom line and having a device to scan receipts to the database and make notes I am sure will come in handy if ever faced with a audit.
Priced at 229.00 it is comparable in price to many scanners today, but I have never received a scanner with a software package that is targeted specifically for small business owners, travelers or even someone taking care of household finances. [www.neatreceipts.com]
