Adobe Introduced Photoshop CC on iPad

Adobe announced that they are expanding Photoshop CC (which they refer to as “real Photoshop CC”). They presented a preview of Photoshop for the iPad at Adobe MAX and will gradually add new operating systems and form factors when they are ready.

Photoshop CC on the desktop is the center of the system. It has been updated with new features. (The ecosystem connection will ship “in the future”). Photoshop CC on the iPad is part of the ecosystem. People will be able to use the mobile version of Photoshop on its own or as a partner to Photoshop on the desktop. (It is not yet available and “ships in the future”.) Cloud documents is another part of the system.

I can see how Photoshop for the iPad would be useful for artists who create digital drawings. It also would make things easier for photographers who want to edit their photos on their iPad while traveling.

Personally, I do all of my artwork by hand and on paper because that is how I was taught. It is unlikely that I will switch to Photoshop for the iPad. That being said, I can see the benefits of it for other artists. If I’m understanding this correctly, an artist could start their drawing on their desktop, sync it to their iPad, and work on the artwork some more at another location.

Photoshop CC on iPad will be available in 2019.

Adobe Releases Photoshop Touch for iPad

Adobe recently announced their new Photoshop Touch app for the iPad.  The app was specifically designed for the tablet interface, and is the new centerpiece of the Adobe Touch Apps.  “Photoshop Touch combines the magic of Photoshop and its core features with the convenience of a tablet, bringing image-editing power to the fingertips of millions of people.”

Photoshop Touch gives users the ability to create layered photos, touch up pictures, paint, remove parts of an image by utilizing Refine Edge technology from Photoshop, which makes hard-to-select areas with soft edges easy to capture when making selections.

The app was announced on February 27th at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain and is available now from the iTunes App Store for $9.99.

Smashing Magazine’s 5th Birthday

Smashing Magazine is celebrating its fifth birthday and as a wee treat, has prepared a “Best of Smashing Magazine” ebook and is giving it away free. The articles are all about web design, Photoshop, typography and user interfaces (or the user experience as it seems to be called now).

It’s no lightweight either – there are 409 pages of beautifully prepared material packed with information and examples. The first article, “30 Usability Issues”, makes interesting reading even if you aren’t a web designer. By being more educated about design, as a consumer you can be more aware and critical of websites and other media. Did you know that the Macintosh logo is an example of the Law of Pragnanz? No, neither did I but you’ll have to read the article to find out what it means.

Other articles include, “Setting Up Photoshop for Web and iPhone Development”, “What Font Should I Use?” and “10 Principles of Effective Web Design”. There’s the occasional overlap between the articles but it’s never repetition for the sake of it.

The ebook is available from iTunes or for .pdf, .mobi and .epub formats, direct from Smashing Magazine. Warning – it’s 55 MB download as it contains all three versions of the ebook.

GNC-2009-03-06 #457 Back in the Flow here in Japan

Surprisingly Connectivity this trip to Japan has been horrible in that I have been going as many as 12 hours a day without connectivity. But it has proven to be a very productive trip, yet I look forward to heading home late next week.
