Data Center Spaghetti Trees

Not exactly news, but I saw a link to this picture gallery and it took me way back to my time as a field tech.  I recently was helping out with the building of a demo lab, and my boss asked why I was being so anal about the cables.

Would Apple Really Do This?

The hot rumour this week is whether Apple is planning to revive the Newton handheld computer. The original Newton created the handheld market but failed before that market took off. I am not convinced at all that if it is true, the revival would be anything more than a nostalgia release like the 'New Beetle'. The handheld market is not

The RIAA’s Worst Nightmare?

After more than 4 years of their much reviled litigation of their customers, the RIAA may be about to get what it has tried to avoid, actually going to trial. While I am sure you have heard of the recent ruling of costs against them, this was after they tried to back out of the case without prejudice, and were

Goodbye Office 2007 and Good Riddance!

I talked about this last night on my show, but the second I get back from Ontario next week I am pulling Office 2007 off my computer. This has been an disaster of an upgrade.

I would rather have an iBrick then give AT&T a Penny

Well, Apple made the statement yesterday that their next firmware update is going to make my iPhone running on a T-Mobile Sim a iBrick. Honestly, I would rather smash the thing then run have to be bound to AT&T.

What is a Better Way to Market via SMS?

In yesterdays post on ad funded mobiles I mentioned that there were better ways to use SMS as a marketing tool to reach a targeted audience.  I received a question from this about what these were and am posting the response here for others that are interested.  I can illustrate this best with an anecdote of good marketing via SMS I encountered recently.

DocuPen RC800 Portable Scanner

Earlier this year while I was at the Consumer Electronics Show I had the chance to see the DocuPen Portable Scanner demonstrated, and had hoped to be able to try it out myself at some point.

Maybe ad supported food?

I was reading in NY Times about companies that are selling ad supported mobile phones.  My first reaction was scorn, this could only be a way to dupe uninformed marketing managers out of their cash.  For the sake of fairness though, I thought I should have a look before snapping to judgment.  There is a lot of buzz out in the market about the possibilities of mobile advertising, if only because of Google recently announcing a mobile version of adwords, but what would this tell about the possibilities of ad supported mobile phones?

Marketing Yourself on Facebook

Read an interesting article on how to build up your popularity on facebook.  The suggestions seem well thought out, and if you are trying to increase your profile, would be well worth following.  What it doesn’t go into though, is why you would want to.  Unless you are trying to engage in a Myspace-esque “who’s got the most friends” game, I am not sure why you would want to use Facebook in this way.
