I think most of you are thinking that Steve Jobs will make OS X open source when hell freezes over, but the more I think about it the more I kinda think like wow, that would be cool. Not only would the entire Linux base be dumb struck so would Microsoft, and in that statement they could be in real trouble.
But the logic is flawed, because Apple will never do that for the simple fact that a large amount of it’s hardware sales would dry up overnight as major computer manufactures would smell blood and produce PC that would run OS X and price them in such a way and in such quantity that Apple would not be able to compete. At the same time the move would simply and effectively cause the folks at Microsoft to re-price the operating system and pray that the adoption did not become so widespread that they would have to do the same thing and give Windows away or worse yet make it open source as well.
Interesting to say the least and John Dvorak may have made the most profound assessment to date even though it is a wild one at that. [abcnews.go.com]
