Labels bitching about BBC distributing Beethoven’s symphonies

I am not surprised that classic labels are crying about the great public service the BBC has just completed in allowing people to download the Beethoven’s symphonies. They should be thanking the BBC. Because how many people do you know that would pay to download them. I think the more exposure people get to classical music will in turn drive traditional sales. I would not be surprised if by years end we will see an increase in classical music sales.

Let’s think about it the BBS is indicating that nearly one million downloads have occurred that means that 1 million or more people will be exposed to one of the worlds all time classics. Record companies need to think a little bit out of the box these days instead of putting forth doom and gloom. [The Independent]
