iklip_av_main_image_20151229Jamie Davis is joined by Daniel J. Lewis and Michael Day. They discuss their personal picks from 2016 CES.

Michael talks about a spoon that is designed to automatically compensate for involuntary movements, allowing people with Parkinson’s Disease or Cerebral Palsy to feed themselves.

Daniel talks about the IK Multimedia iKlip A/V, a sophisticated mounting device that allows a smartphone to be used as a light-weight, single hand-held video recorder with a wireless lav microphone and real-time audio monitoring. It should be available in the second quarter of 2016 and should be priced around $100 or under.

Nick Demayo’s pick was the GymWatch Sensor, a Bluetooth-enabled device that you can clip on your arm that is able to detect range of motion, speed, etc. to ensure you are exercising properly and can report data back to an app on your mobile device. The app can graphically display your range of motion on your mobile device and also tell you verbally if you need to speed up, slow down, etc. to ensure maximum exercise impact. The GymWatch Sensor sells for $149 and $289 depending on model.

Jack and Michael like Dog and Bone Bluetooth LockSmart, a Bluetooth-enabled padlock that sells for $89.95.

Jamie found a ThinOPTICS flat smartphone-shaped pod that sticks to the back of your phone case that stores flat built-in reading glasses. Through the use of FlexGrip technology, the ThinOPTICS teading glasses securely stick to the bridge of your nose without arms and stores flat in the back of the phone case when not in use. The ThinOPTICS pod sells for $24.95. Or choose a phone case version to fit your phone for $38.95.

IK Multimedia Releases UltraTuner for Apple Watch

IKs UltraTuner for Apple WatchIK Multimedia has released the latest version of their UltraTuner app for iPhone. It is now compatible with the Apple Watch. UltraTuner allows musicians to accurately tune their instruments straight from their wrist. That makes it even easier for musicians to keep their instruments in tune on stage, in the studio, or anywhere in between.

The newest version of the UltraTuner app can now be paired with the Apple Watch when it is installed on an iPhone with the most recent OS. Musicians can view the tuning information on their Apple Watch in 2 operational modes: UltraTuner’s classic graduated LED “STAGE mode”, and a simple “NOTE mode”, customized for the Apple Watch display.

“STAGE mode” provides a bright, highly visible, display with two large LED-like wing arrays that light up in progressive amounts according to whether the note played is flat or sharp. The tuning indicator will turn a bright neon green when the note is in tune.

“NOTE mode” shows the musical note letter that is being played, with arrows below to indicate whether the note is flat or sharp. It also will turn a bright neon green when the note is in tune.

Beyond the Apple Watch enhancement, the Ultra Tuner app can run on both iPhone or iPod touch. It can receive an audio signal through the built-in microphone or an audio interface (like IK’s iRig HD, iRig 2, or iRig PRO). Its note-detection engine delivers accuracy down to +/- 1/100 of a cent, making it easy for precision tuning and calibration of all instruments.

The newest version of UltraTuner, that is now compatible with Apple Watch, is available from the App Store for $/€4.99 Those who already own the UltraTuner for iPhone app will receive a free update of UltraTuner for Apple Watch.

IK Multimedia’s iRig 2 is Here for On-The-Go Music Production

iRig 2One of the more remarkable developments that’s happened in the post-iOS world is the rise of hardware and software that allows an iPad or iPhone user to create high-quality multitrack audio. One of the pioneers in this mobile recording technology is IK Multimedia. The company kicked things off with its simple but effective iRig, an adapter that connected to an iOS device’s headphone port and allowed users to plug in instruments like guitars and then use those instruments to interact with a wide range of apps.

Now IK Multimedia has upped the game with the release of its iRig 2. It improves on its predecessor by providing better sound quality and more universal compatibility. It does this while maintaining the convenience and ease-of-use that have made it a staple piece of gear for many musicians.

Like the first iRig, the new iRig 2 plugs directly into the headphone jack input of a mobile device. It lets musicians send an instrument signal to apps, such as IK’s AmpliTube, while also providing on-board output for real-time monitoring. Unlike the original iRig, the new model comes with a built-in gain control. This means that it can be customized to always provide the best sound, no matter what type of guitar, bass or line-level instrument or device is used.

IK Multimedia Announces iRig PowerBridge

Ik Multimedia iRig PowerBridgeIK Multimedia, a company that puts musicians first, has created the iRig PowerBridge. It is a new charging system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch that allows for the continuous charge of the device while using iRig accessories. This allows mobile musicians to practice, perform, and record with their favorite 30-pin or Lightning compatible IK gear anywhere they want and for as long as they want.

The iRig PowerBridge is compatible with the iRig Mic HD, the iRig HD, iRig Keys, iRig PRO and iRig MIDI 2. The iRig PowerBridge combines a power supply and an ultra-low noise power conditioner that connects to a power outlet on one end and a Lightning or 30-pin iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch on the other.

Between both ends is a female Mini-DIN connector that can be used to connect any digital iRig accessory with a Mini-DIN or Micro-USB port. It is a streamlined setup that allows for continuous charging while also passing along audio and MIDI information between the iRig accessory and the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. An LED display provides at-a-glance visual feedback while charging.

The iRig PowerBridge comes in two versions. One is for Lightning and the other is for 30-pin. Both are available for preorder for $69.99 (excluding taxes). The iRig PowerBridge will ship Q1 in 2015 from music and electronics retailers worldwide and on the IK online store.
