Whisk’s Food AI Provides Personalized Cooking Experience at CES 2020

Whisk, a smart food platform acquired by Samsung NEXT last year, unveiled its advanced Food AI developed in a collaboration with nutritionists, food scientists, software engineers and grocery retailers from the US, UK, Korea and Europe.

Whisk’s Food AI brings together user preferences, intent and context to deliver personalized cooking experiences. To inform the AI, users simply save a few of their favorite recipes into Whisk’s recipe box and, if they wish, share personal food preferences (e.g. likes, dietary restrictions, usual retailers) and their location. Users then receive personalized food recommendations based on their preferences, saved recipes and other context (e.g. local weather, seasonal goods).

The personalized cooking experience shown at CES 2020 is brought to life by the combination of Food AI and the new Samsung Family Hub with the ViewInside camera, where AI-powered image recognition is used to first understand what’s inside the fridge. Then, the fridge recommends a curated feed of recipes that incorporate the ingredients you already have with your preferences, desires and situational needs.

“In the US an average person wastes 238 pounds of food per year – that’s a staggering 21 percent of the food they buy. Wasted ingredients also cost the average household $1,800 per year. When coupled with the fact that people generally end up cooking the same 7-9 dishes on repeat, people are not being inspired to find creative solutions to use up leftover ingredients, wasting food, time and money,” said Nick Holzherr, Head of Product, Whisk at Samsung NEXT. “Whisk’s Food AI takes the ingredients you have and finds uses for them through an understanding of the kinds of recipes you enjoy, making your cooking experience simpler and smarter.”

Last month, Whisk launched its first set of multi-platform apps to empower users with a faster way to plan and shop for meals by turning saved recipes into collaborative, smarter shopping lists.

Sunflower Labs Announces World’s First Fully Autonomous Residential Security Drone at CES 2020

Sunflower Labs announced the launch of the Sunflower Home Awareness System – the world’s first fully autonomous residential security drone – at CES 2020. Homeowners will be able to pre-order the Sunflower system with a deposit of $999. The company will deliver the first systems to customers mid-2020.

The Sunflower Home Awareness System pairs always-on motion and vibration sensors with AI processing to provide privacy and peace-of-mind to homeowners while dramatically minimizing false alarms, which a 2018 Urban Institute study found accounts for up to 90 percent of police calls from security systems.

“Advancements in smart home security have been stationary or dependent on video cameras until now,” said Alex Pachikov, co-founder and CEO of Sunflower Labs. “Thanks to the integration of AI and machine learning, homeowners can now have a truly smart security system that, over time, learns and reacts to its surroundings. Sunflower Labs is a leader in the next evolution in smart security.”

The Sunflower Home Awareness System consists of three components: Sunflowers, Bee and Hive:

The Sunflowers: Each Sunflower, disguised as garden lights, houses an array of motion and vibration sensors to constantly monitor activity on the property. Sunflowers are capable of detecting and differentiating people, animals and cars as well as displaying the activity on a map in real-time.

The Bee: A lightweight, fully-autonomous drone that navigates safely to observe activity on your property. The Bee had advanced features, such as automatic deployment, fully autonomous flight, ultrasonic collision- avoidance sensors, high-precision differential GPS and live streaming video.

The Hive: This sleek, weatherproof housing and charging station not only keeps the Bee safe and powered up, it’s also the brains of the entire system with AI data processing and analysis enabled on an embedded system.

If the system senses anything out of the ordinary, it sends an alert to the property owner’s mobile device. In seconds, the owner can choose to launch an autonomous drone flight and view real-time aerial footage of the property via the Sunflower Labs app from anywhere in the world.

The starting price for the system is $9,950. Final pricing may vary based on customization for your property. To learn more about Sunflower Labs Home Awareness System, please visit booth #51306 at Hall G in Eureka Park at Sands Expo during CES 2020.
