Samsung Q1 Origami

Engadget has some pics up of the Samsung Prototype Origami device, and after looking at those pictures very carefully I am sad to say that your existing EVDO card is not going to fit into this device. It’s just to small lets hope that Sprint or Verizon have their thinking caps on, and gets us a device that will plugin to these things. [Engadget]

Ohh for Sprint and Verizon to get this right I want one card that will swap between a UMPC and a Laptop

Origami Revealed!

Pictures and products introductions are happening at this very moment on the Net and TV but not by Microsoft but instead some of their partners, I will link to everything that is currently out their so you can go to the source, but as expected here are the details, the new devices are part of the expected roll out of Ultra Mobile PC device UMPC which will start off with a 7 inch screen running x86 and will run either regular Windows XP or a variant.

The device is what I consider the Tablet done right small and although it looks like early models will be shipping soon geeks are probably going to want to wait a few months for the really innovative devices coming out, here is the links to the commentary

Robert Scoble gives some hints on what Origami isn’t

It is obvious by all of the hype and speculation that Origami is going to be pretty big whatever it’s intended function may be, but Robert Scoble said it would not be any of the following

t’s not an iPod killer.
It’s not a portable Xbox.
It’s not an OQO killer.
It’s not a PSP killer.
Update: it’s not a Nokia N90 killer either (thanks to Marc Canter for asking about that).

The question I have is, was he smiling from ear to ear when he posted this?

Now what do I think it’s going to be, I think it is going to be mid-sized device that will be about the size of a paperback, and it will run a version of Windows Tablet, with Wifi, it will have a PCMCIA slot for a EVDO card and the thing is indeed going to play Audio, Video and a allow you to do a host of other functions. I am pretty sure that contrary to what Robert is saying that it will give those of us that are Microsoft fans a chance to stop sending the folks at Apple our money when it comes to portable media devices.

More on Microsoft’s Origami

At this point the spin machine is out of control over at Microsoft, and I am sure that this device which we are now pretty sure will be a slimmed down tablet that will do video, music and some gaming is going to be a pretty cool device. But does this mean in 2 weeks when it is revealed that I am going to be able to go down to CompUSA and pick one up?

If they are not in stores they are announced a lot of people are going to be pissed off. I will not be so mad if we could buy one online, but what Microsoft needs to do here if they really want to make this launch sizzle is mail 500 of these to bloggers and have us test them a week before they are available, that would build real buzz and be something that would drive sales.

Or is this device just a prototype for Microsoft’s part lets hope not. [Scoble]
