I use Verizon DSL in Northern NJ, just across the river from Midtown Manhattan. I cant tell you that the DSL speeds are slow. Downloads are barely acceptable and uploads are just horribly slow. My uploads max out at 16kps. So it takes me about a minute to upload 1 MB. This may not be a problem for the average person, but it stinks for uploading podcasts, especially video.
I’m only paying $30 per month, but I’d be willing to pay $10 more to double the speed of the line.
I’m not sure how that compares to what other people get. I’ve thought about switching to cable internet but the general service from Cablevision in this area is pretty poor.
