New 17” MacBook Pro is the price worth it?

I asked in my show last night for some feedback on why the new 17” MacBook Pro was so expensive ($2799.00). I received a couple of e-mail from both Apple users, and Windows users, with parties from both camps having various views.

Tim and Greg both sent me the same link on a comparison that was put together. So in a nutshell it appears what I think was a high price, is justified. But as I replied to Tim I said the average consumer today has a lot of choices out there. He responded saying that people are still buying Cadillacs as well. I am sure that a lot of the dedicated Apple users will pay any price for the product as they have some of the highest brand loyalty scores of any company,

The author of the comparison is obviously a Mac user, so it is important to look at the hardware only because those in the Windows camp will lean one way, and those in the Apple camp the other no mater how persuasive the argument.

One thing for sure is that it all boils down to, is what you as a consumer can afford. I consider myself a power user, I do video and audio processing, I draw complex multi layer drawings in Autocad and utilize other high end 3D drawing programs that cost more than the laptop. With an original sticker price of $1799.00 but on sale for less than $1200.00, it does what I want it to without sacrificing any performance. But I also have a wife that cuts coupons and if I went out and spent $2700.00 plus on any computer I would be hung out to dry.

For those of you picking up the new computer enjoy! [www.systemshootouts.org]
