I was really excited about Odeo when the site launched last year, As I look at how their site has evolved, I don’t understand what they are doing. I visited the site today and essentially gave up after 5 minutes, show searches are timing out, those searches that were completed were not presented in a easy to navigate manner. In my opinion they have lost the edge and the average listener is not going to waste their time. I realize they want people to publish podcast through their interface but in my personal opinion they interface is not good.

Don’t get me started…I’m an Odeo fan but it drives me crazy. I SO want it to work. I like the idea of subscribing to a feed of my feeds. Thus I can download from anywhere and I know I’m only going to get the shows once.
Problems:
No clue how often they update. I don’t hear a slash dot review for days then suddenly Odeo sends me 4. Yeah, I can go in an manually poll for new shows but c’mon.
I’ve also had times whe I’ll suddenly get tons of old shows. I’m not sure of the feed changed and then Odeo thinks they are new or what.
Their search is getting better. It used to just return actual shows, not channels. I think they should switch to channels as the default or, better, let me tick a box or 2 for what I want to search.
Having said all that, I’m staying with it. I want to see it evolve and succeed.
I’m a big Odeo.com fan. I believe that your comment does not live up to your normally thorough investigation. I’ve used it very successfully for over six months now and I believe it’s the best for new users and for using in locations where you can’t load software like at work. Their search is bad, as you say, and I’d go to other sites for that. I’m subscribed to 38 podcasts and Odeo keeps them rolling quite well for me. They recently expanded the limit of shows in queue. I’m not even sure if there is a limit now. So, I’m just saying I’d like you to view it in the light of what it is good at rather than a full service that does everything well. I haven’t seen anything like that yet.
