Marketing Windows Vista

You may think to yourself, who in their right mind will go out and buy Windows Vista when it arrives maybe later this year, maybe next? After all, the only basic features that are new and needed it brings to the table will be some security and RSS features, the rest are just efforts to make their GUI look more like OSX. We also have heard that much of the hardware you have running on your PC today might not run on Vista. But Microsoft has a plan. According to Microsoft Watch the next Service Pack for Windows XP has been pushed back another year! SP3 will not be available until the second half of 2007. I wonder how long it took for the Marketing bunch at Microsoft to come up with this plan?

According to Microsoft Watch, “Microsoft officials attributed some of the delays in Longhorn/Windows Vista to SP2. Officials claimed the company’s decision to reassign developers working on Vista to finishing and testing SP2 had a negative impact on Vista’s schedule. It is unclear if Microsoft is pushing back SP3’s delivery date in order to avoid a similar negative impact on Vista’s schedule. It’s also unclear whether Microsoft may be holding back SP3 in order to help stimulate upgrade demand for Vista.”
