I rely on my laptop while traveling and baby it like a newborn child and when it starts acting funny I am very quick to try and tell what is wrong. I recently was getting a BSOD when I tried connecting to the Internet via dial-up not a good thing when your sitting in a hotel. But luckily it was only happening once in a while. So I am living with the issue until I can get it home. But for some that make there living looking at new programs and computers in general the issue can be much more serious. A editor over at ZDNet had such and experience recently and it goes to show that problems with Windows and the cursed registry continue to plague users worldwide. [ZDNet]

No not at all I am a die hard windows user and have several Linux systems that I play around with. For the comment about using compliant hardware the BSOD I am seeing on my laptop is on a Sony Vaio which has 100% compliant equipment. BSOD’s are rare on most of my systems I have had a NT4 system running a huge active software load along with a 3rd party web server and mail server and have never had a BSOD on this system. But sometimes developers get sloppy and software has memory leaks and piss poor API and DLL intergration causing software specific BSOD’s
Whats your point with this article? Windows is crappy? you can’t manage Windows? oh I get it lets all use Linux? heh.. go ahead :)
Funny how easy BSOD’s are to avoid if you use hardware on the HCL. I’ve run a 500-user mail system on Windows NT4.0 on a Dell 800Mhz DESKTOP for more than four years now – and never had a BSOD.
It stopped once when it ran out of disk space (my fault).
BSOD’s are almost always crappy hardware and/or crappy drivers – neither of which you can blame on M$, no matter what their faults.
As for registry errors, if Microsoft made it bulletproof every ISV on the planet would bleat like hell :)
