I think this story is in the running for the Darwin award this year as the fallout is not yet fully being felt but it seems Microsoft had a large number of documents including customer e-mail address and internal company documents on a unsecured FTP Server.
Many of the documents have been posted over at www.securityoffice.net which is off-line this afternoon either it’s web server crumbled from the load or Microsoft legal team has been working this weekend. There is a great article on The Register they have been steadily working through the documents and finding lots of Juicy information. The article referenced has some interesting comments about UNIX and Win32 solutions which differ from public information on the Microsoft Technet web site.
I just wonder what else Microsoft lies about to the general unsuspecting public. IT managers already know that Microsoft spins the information that they publicly display as they have the technical background to decipher it all. But to have internal written documents contradicting public documents is another issue all together.
Lets see if there are any lawsuits after companies that have been hurt by misleading Microsoft propaganda pours over the information.
