I think the plan as outlined in the linked New York Times article is dead on. I have always wondered why NASA had gone away from heavy lift vehicles, and it's nice to see that they are back on the drawing board. I hope that they proceed with the design as outlined and build em fast. [New York Times]

I just can not get over the fact that we have flown as many Shuttle flights as we have, and only 1 flight after the Columbia disaster they want to go down their and pull out some spacers. This just blows me away. The question I want answered is how many previous shuttle missions have come come with this spacer
The second of 3 planned space walks took place today and the ISS now has it's full compliment of Gyroscopes replacing one which had failed in 2002. With the shuttle fleet fate unknown the crew needs to get as much work done as possible on the ISS thus the Shuttle is going to extend it's stay by one day. [BBC]
