X is back up for most users after what appeared to be a significant outage that spiked early this morning around 9AM ET. The Verge reported.
Global internet monitor NetBlocks posted this morning that X “has been experiencing international outages for some users for a second time in a week,” adding that the issue isn’t “related to country-level internet disruptions or filtering.
Downdetector showed complaints of an outage rose sharply after 8AM ET before beginning to fall about 45 minutes later. As of this writing this reports have dripped from tens of thousands to reports of only hundreds.
Elsewhere on social media, people had been complaining about issues with the network for a couple of days — one of the top posts on the r/Twitter Reddit community is a screenshot of an error message on the X login screen, with many replies complaining about login issues.
The issue comes after a fire reportedly broke out in an Oregon data center owned by X on Thursday morning. Wired writes that multiple unnamed sources told it that the fire which forced “an extended response from emergency crews,” involved batteries in one of the data center’s rooms.
CNBC reported: The Elon Musk-owned social media platform X experience a brief outage on Saturday morning with tens of thousands of users reportedly unable to use the site.
About 25,000 users reported issues with the platform, according to the analytics platform Downdetector, which gathers data from users to monitor issues with various platforms. Roughly 21,000 users reported issues just after 8:30 a.m. ET, per the analytics platform.
The issues appeared to be largely resolved around 10 a.m, but some users experienced intermittent issues with the platform until around 11 a.m.
It’s the second time in less than a week that users experienced issues with the platform, after X also experienced an outage on Thursday.
“As evidenced by the uptime issues this week, major operational improvements need to be made,” Musk wrote on X in response to a post about the Saturday outage.
TechCrunch reported: For over 24 hours, many X users, including this reporter, have been experiencing issues with the site’s basic functionality. Some messages won’t load, timelines won’t update, and certain posts can’t be seen without a webpage refresh (or several).
The trouble started Thursday afternoon, according to Downdetector, a crowdsourced platform for flagging web outages. Beginning at 2:12 p.m. Eastern, thousands of users submitted reports about bugs ranging from an inability to sign in to disappearing direct messages.
X’s official Engineering account acknowledged the degraded service in a post on Thursday, claiming it was related to a data center outage.
“X is aware some of our users are experiencing performance issues on the platform today,” wrote the account. “We are experiencing a data center outage and the team is actively working tp remediate the issue.”
