Zune Podcast Market Share Exploding!

Zune108I want you to pay very close attention to the graph. The increase in Zune listeners in the first 2 weeks of 2008 tells me several things that people need to be aware of that are publishing podcasts at this time.

In the first two weeks of 2008 the number of people consuming my podcast with the Zune is WAY up. Over all my show download numbers are up about 15%. This is the largest growth my show has seen in a very long time.

What this proves is that when you put Podcast front and center in the Zune Interface like the Zune team has, and make it a integral part of the Zune MarketPlace people are bound to check it out.

Where Apple has failed in iTunes is that they have made podcast the bastard step child part of the Interface. Nearly impossible to find current content and virtually impossible to find podcast that you want to subscribe to!

The growth is amazing. I am retaining the iTunes portion of the Audience and picking up huge numbers of new listeners.

  • iTunes 38.7%
  • Zune MarketPlace 21.3%
  • Juice 12.5%
  • Firefox 4.7%
  • Internet Explorer 4.1%
  • Nokia 3.0%
  • Zencast 1.2%
  • myPodder 1.2%

If this is any indication of things to come it could be very well that the majority of my podcast audience will originate from the Zune Marketplace in several months

Tim we are seeing across the board when we do an aggregate look increases in shows viewership coming from the Zune Market Place an average of 10% of those that are listed in the Market Place.

Could it be that most Zune owners are Windows users and that they are not watching mac specific content.

I need to do some deeper looking and see if that is being a factor.

I’m not seeing this at all… nothing from Zune whatsoever and I had Rob place me in the Zune marketplace at the very beginning. Could it be that only the podcasts that have something to do with the Zune users are getting any downloads from the Marketplace? Could it be that the ones getting the frontpage views are getting downloads? I know I’m not getting the traffic from Blubrry that others claim either. But I’ve yet to have my podcast shown on the frontpage.

At least with iTunes I am able to get on the 5 pages of tech based podcasts consistently. I bet if my podcast was featured on other services, I might get some downloads from them too. But, that doesn’t happen, so I’ll have to be happy with my iTunes downloads.

Here are my latest stats.. from Blubrry (Just think if I was featured on Blubrry like the handful of others are everyday.)
