I hope Todd doesn’t mind me using his own blog to thank him and take a look back at Geeknewscentral.com over the past few years, but I thought that some of you (both new and old readers) might be interested in what I’ve been looking at recently.
I first came across GeekNewsCentral.com sometime in 2003, though I can’t really remember why, how, or exactly when it was. I read the article that I came to read and then left not thinking about the site again until I got my first iPod and started looking for some technical podcasts to listen to. One of the first sites that I came across was GeekNewsCentral and I immediately remembered the [insert keyword here] layout (J/K Todd). I started listening to the Geek News Central podcast around show number 15 or so, but I have now gone back and listened to all of them (I think I’ve got all of them at least). Anyways, flash forward to this morning when I was looking around for something to read and I started digging into geeknewscentral.com’s archive section. Lo and behold it only took me about 3 or 4 clicks and I realized that I had found the first post ever on Geek News Central. Now it’s not hidden or anything like that, but I still thought it was a pretty cool find. I then started to navigate through the first 10-15 posts (using the navigation bar links right above the date on each post) on the site and before I knew it I had gone through probably 100 or more posts (though I didn’t read every one of them.)
Anyways, the whole point to me writing this is to do a few things:
1.) Congratulate/Thank Todd for putting this site together and for sticking with it for so many years when so many other bloggers (including myself) have started doing something and then given up on it after just a few weeks.
2.) Let other people who are fans of Geek News Central (I know you’re out there) start from the beginning and read through the first X amount of posts.
3.) Get you to join me in thanking Todd for what he has put together. If you appreciate what Todd has done then please drop him an email or leave a comment on this post (but don’t be offended if he doesn’t respond – you know as well as I do that he is a very busy person.)
OK, Todd I hope that you don’t mind me writing this on your website…I know that this isn’t what you gave me an account to write about, but after reading through some of the first posts on your site and reading about the vision that you had for GeekNewsCentral I couldn’t help but write this and share it with others. Thanks again!
