Limelight – Podcasting – Podshow

While we were working on PodcasterNews.com and getting ready to roll out the network we went looking for a national delivery network. We spent a considerable amount of time talking with Limelight Networks, but when we ran the numbers we realized that for a startup that was being boot strapped by the five of us, the price per gig just turned out to be to expensive. They really worked hard to get us a deal that made sense but the cost per gig cut to deeply into our business model.

I see now that Podshow is about to announce a deal with Limelight, based upon my experience I would think that Podshow will be nothing more than a customer of Limelight. If it turns out that they are anything but a customer I will be disappointed. Out of respect of the great team at Limelight I will not go into the details of the pricing we were offered, but I will say that Podshow has probably had to commit to pretty high terabyte level, and will be paying for their bandwidth by the gig.

I do know some other networks have some pretty good deals with them, but for a world class delivery network you pay world class prices for the per gigabyte transfer cost, you cannot beat their multi-points of presence, not to mention the listener demographics you can collect thru their system.

I hope to have the podcasternews.com traffic to the level where we would need Limelight in the future but for now I can pay for a new dedicated server every month and allocate a couple of terabytes of traffic to each and make our boot strapping dollars go further. If their are any companies out their that would like to partner with RawVoice, and the PodcasterNews.com site drop me a line at ceo@rawvoice.com we are always available to chat. [Kossopml ]
