Casper XP to the Rescue

I came home from work today with my wife telling me that something was wrong with the computer. The second I turned it on I knew what it was. I had a Hard Drive headed south. I reached into the cabinet pulled out a brans shinny new 200 gig hard-drive opened her case did a few wire swaps and booted and prayed.

The drive that was going bad was indeed the boot disk so I grabbed my utility disk which has a $49.95 program called Casper XP that saved the day back in July. The computer would boot but you could tell the drive was having a hard time. I loaded the application an ran it moving all 80 gigs of data from two partitions to the new drive. I kept checking on it and even had a fan blowing on the suspect drive.

After a couple of hours of nail bitting it reported it was done. I pulled the old drive out of primary stuck the new drive in it’s spot re-attached the second drive that was in the machine screwed everything in booted and all is well. I had backups of everything so that was not a concern but not having to re-load windows and everything else was a good thing. Wife is happy and machine is cooking away. Total time invested about 2hrs 30 minutes and most of that was just waiting for the data to copy. This program has saved my butt twice this year.. [Casper XP]
