Difference between FeedPlayer and Wimpy

On a recent show I asked what the difference was between feedplayer and wimpy here is the reply I received.

“Hi Todd. Thanks for the mention. I appreciate it.

You asked about the differences between the Wimpy player and the Feed Player.

First, my hat’s off to the Wimpy folk and their prodcuts. There are some fundamental differences, however, between the players in feature sets, intended use, set up, and cost.

1) The Wimpy players require server scripts and the swf to be, upon payment, downloaded, configured and hosted by you.

The Feed Player was designed to be ‘mobile.’ It is available instantly with no files to download or php or asp scripts to edit. There is an html code snippet to add to your html and thats it.

2) Listeners can subscribe to your podcast directly in the Feed Player including a one-click for iPodder users.

3) If you choose to enable the feature, listeners can put the player on their site or sites like My Space and they can ‘syndicate’ your show helping you promote your show. Again, let it be ‘mobile.’

4) Feed Player includes show notes including links which other players don’t.

5) Feed Player includes your podcast channel information including your description and a link to your website for when it is shared among your listeners.

6) It has what I think, as a musician, is a really cool feature for musicians (or anyone else) sharing their mp3s and keeping contact with the eventual listeners. This is a feature I havent promoted yet – but will… i can describe this in more detail later…

7) Wimpy has the ability to reskin the player which is great for designer nerds like me. Feed Player doesnt have this now but will some day.

8) Feed Player is free.”
