Pimping your Pagerank for Profit

Isn’t that a great Title it came from Rogers Cadenhead Weblog

A very good discussion on several websites today have me thinking about all the weird offers I have been getting for the past couple of months on doing link exchanges. The latest one was from a company that sells watches. Why would they ever think I would even consider doing a link exchange with a company like that.

I had not realized it but companies are looking for sites with good page rank to advertise on. This site is only rated a “6” on Google, and I had honestly not even paid attention to it.

It seems though that some companies are willing to pimp their pagerank to attract advertisers that will pay a premium just so they can have linking from a website with a high page rank to their own which will supposedly in the long term help drive up their pagerank.

I think Google needs to come up with some meta data we can put in the html that would easily point out what links on the site are advertisements this would help level the playing field.
