I want to clarify this quote that was made from my interview with a reporter at the Washington Post
“We invented podcasting,” said Todd Cochrane, who hosts his own podcast known as “Geek News Central” out of his home in Honolulu. “The people who are coming in now are jumping over the fence and joining the party. It’s funny how Apple is so focused on the commercial shows and how little they are emphasizing the grass-roots side of podcasting.”
“We”, being the entire independent non commercial Podcast Community. The people that are joining the party who are jumping over the fence is commercial media like ESPN, CNN.
The reporter did not pick up a key element in this conversation. The content that mainstream media is bringing to the table is more corporate dictated doctrine who’s message is directed and shaped by program executives who sit in the top floors of corporate offices in New York.
So far as Apple focusing on commercial content versus the so called Indie Podcast makes me laugh. Their intent to regulate us to the back of the bus, was oh so very evident in their calling those of you that contributed into building the “take back the airways audio revolution” into what it is today. They should have called the entire community “Podcasters” as we deserve to be called what we created not “Indie Podcaster”
I have a idea, lets start calling ESPN, CNN etc “Commercial biased Podcast”, personally I like the term Jump Over better but hey most people don’t get it. [Washington Post]
