Why you need a sitemap!

I understand the power of telling the Google and other search engines what should be indexed and when. I have automated my sitemap file creation which updates during each post, and submitted it to Google.

What it is telling Google is that my front page and every article on the front page including approved comments need to be scanned daily. Next I have set a seperate schedule for the articles a little deeper in the pile, and finally a hey you can probably come back every couple of weeks and look at the rest.

This site is now being visited by Google every 24 hours, sometimes it was every other day. So I can be assured that new articles like this one will be in the index sometime in the next 24 hours which will help people that are looking for info on the Google Sitemap were to look. Caution though the spammers may figure out a way now to use these list against us, and comment and trackback spam the heck out of us.

  1. Hey, Thanks for sharing your experience with sitemaps. I saw the article on Google blogs the other day and thought how cool. You mentioned you automated the process so everytime your post new stuff on your bloghomepage it gets submitted. Do you mind sharing how you setup the automation to work.
