Number seems a little high to me. I have been doing a show now since October 9th 2004 I have seen some pretty amazing growth and knowing that I do have a pretty good following. Considering were I think my show is falling out in listeners I think the numbers some are claiming across the podcast community is inflated.
We have been looking at some real numbers from real podcasters over at techpodcasts.com and think we have a pretty good handle on a number of the shows with real numbers that people will take notice of. We are going to try and announce some real numbers here in the next week from the info those that have been willing to share the family jewels. We are not afraid of the numbers we just want to know what the totals really are and work from there.
I think you will be surprised that techpodcasts.com may be able to hit our initial goal of unique IP’s sooner than predicted. We have some work to do to get to the number we think we need to be at to throw down a media package that makes a Fortune 500 advertiser say wow.
Give us 6 months and we may have a shot at hitting the number that we have floating out there. But hey we are just getting started building a new news network. [Pew-Internet]
The number may not be inflated. They asked how many had downloaded a radio show to their ipod, not how many have mastered using podcatching software to download a radio show to their ipod. Considering the ease with which people can download MP3s and put them on their ipod, I don’t think the number is all that out of whack.
