I travel a great deal and usually keep my laptop within reaching distance, but I am always concerned that I am going to do something careless and have my laptop stolen. I am not so worried about the monetary loss as I am the information contained within. The same can be said for home burglary.
With the addition of desktop search applications personal and very private information is just a keyword search away. I realize once someone has your gear your screwed anyway but desktop searching makes it that much easier for someone to pilfer thru your system.
Sure I could encrypt everything but that is not convenient, you would think that someone would come up with a viable easy to use solution that would help protect the truly sensitive information we keep on out computers. On the other hand if it is that sensitive it is probably a good idea to store that information on external media. [eWeek]
