Some of you know who I work for and a little about what I do. The majority of you do not. I do not write about my work nor do I every cover topics associated with my work. This is by design as I could find myself without a job or worse!. In a few short years I will be hunting for a job. I have already had some extended invitations extended saying come talk to us when your 6 months away from your transition. Their are several Jobs I could have that would be obtained simply by picking up the telephone. But they are in locations that I am not yet prepared to move to.
The goal is to find something in Hawaii that pays enough to allow me to stay their and to keep being challenged. If this proves unsuccessful I will find employment in the mainland US that puts my family in a location that has a good balance of culture and affordable living. Hawaii is a cultural melting pot and what goes for normal behavior in Hawaii would be frowned upon in more conservative states. Hawaii is not considered a affordable place to live unless you are graced with a job that has a very high compensation.
The readership of this website is quite large and many of you are in the Tech industry. I would like some feedback as I start my career transition research. I would especially like to hear from any of you that work in Technology based Research and Development or are program managers at R&D facilities. I am looking for the following, State and City you work in Cost of Living factors. Any offsets you made in compensation adjustment because of a lower Cost of Living. The general technology market in your area that would provide employment opportunities if your current employer went out of business today. And any other comments you may have. If you would rather not leave a public comment please forward to geek @ geeknewscentral.com
