Those of you running a Unix server understand the importance of a Cron Job. We have added some services here at Geek News Central that we have to run a hourly cron job to have the application update a portion of the site.
Turns out my Webhost does not allow cron jobs to be run but if I point my browser at the URL the webhost does not disallow me from running it manually. If any of you are running a Unix box I sure would appreciate someone hooking me up and adding a Cron Job for us. If your willing to help us out we would appreciate it. Drop us a comment if your willing to help. Or if you know of a easy solution I can implement from one of my Windows boxes give us a shout.
If you still need help, let me know. I can set up a cron job to retrieve a URL from your site every hour.
Many JSP providers haven’t realized yet that you can create multiple threads, one of which can act like your cron job! I’ve done something like it recently when a customer of mine asked to send and email to everyone who had not logged on for the last 72 hours…. using Java was even easier cause I was able to connect to the database with no problems, find out who would receive the emails, and send ’em….
anyhow, good luck…
