One of those Weeks, Months, Year

After spending 3 days out of the office for my minor surgery I went back Thursday not 100%, to a work schedule that required 175% of my attention. There are times when ones jobs totally sucks the life out of you. Recent staffing changes has me pulling my hair out. I am asking people to do the near impossible with a process that takes at best 6 months to get dialed in.

When you have to get people dialed in over a week versus those 6 months it is beyond painful. But those that transfer to my department where the best in their previous positions.

Sometimes you do not have time to babysit and this week was one of them my adage to all of them was Sink or Swim. If they swim and survive the month then they will understand what it is like to be on the cutting edge.

Next week will not be any better. Thus I had to invoke some very tough love.
Being a manager is not fun at times, these past 2 days I had to revert to a management style that all of us hate. But that is life when your plate of action items is stacked to the breaking point you find out how people handle the pressure. In the long run it makes them better people.

I must say I am really looking forward to December hopefully I will not have a heart attack in the process..
