Unusual ruling in DeCSS case

If you have been watching the proceedings in various legal cases surrounding DeCSS you will know that the DVD CCA & MPAA have won a lot of victories against companies. The most notorious ruling was when the ever popular www.2600.org website was forced to remove the DeCSS source code.

Over the past few years the legal proceedings involving the DeCSS code has probably fed a 100 lawyers families. Groups like the MPAA and the DVD copy control association have worked to keep DeCSS out of popular software programs such as (321 Studios DVD Copying Program.)

The fight they have waged has made companies and individuals more determined than ever to release software products that insure that Law abiding citizens of the United States are able to exercise their rights to fairly use media that they have purchased.

The latest ruling is covered significantly by ZDNet. I encourage all of you to go read the article. This will not be the last round of this fight but people need to stay aware that media companies are doing everything in their power to ensure you no longer have a legal right to fairly use media that you acquire legally.
