Quoting ZDNet “Overturning a series of decisions in favor of the Recording Industry Association of America, the Washington, D.C., court said copyright law did not allow the organization to issue subpoenas for the identity of file swappers on Internet service providers’ networks”
This is a huge victory but does not stop the RIAA from filing individual lawsuits. They will now have to file individual “John Doe Lawsuits” against anonymous individuals. This stops the RIAA from sending ISP’s one court order covering countless individuals. The court sympathized with the RIAA but basically said that provisions of the DMCA do not cover peer to peer networks.
