Buying smokes on-line has Mass. State consumers getting Tax Bills

Seems people like buying cigarettes on-line to save some money. Many anti-smoking states have massive taxes on cigarettes and buying them on-line where they can see savings up to 50% has been quite popular. So popular in fact that somehow the Massachusetts Department of Revenue acquired a customer list of buyers and are now sending out Tax demand letters. The mystery is how did they get the list.

The thing that concerns me about this is if a tax department is able to get a list of people buying cigarettes out of state. Then what else is the government requesting on our buying habits. [ZDNet]
