Microsoft Guide to Security Patch Management

Joe Consumer downloads patch and bug goes away. Hypothetically I guess that is the way it is supposed to work. But after reading the official Microsoft web site on Patch Management makes me really wonder if people really need to have this explained to them with graphs and charts.
