I have not purchased a CD in about a year as part of my personal boycott of the RIAA. I have on the otherhand purchased approxiamentally 20 singles via online methods. I don’t use a file sharing service partially because I am usually on dial-up as I am always on the road.
CBS MarketWatch has a very good article on why Album sales are down. They point to history and suggest that it may becasue the majority of music just sucks. I thought about that for a while and it does indeed seem that aside from a handful of top artist most of the Albums being released contain fodder to fill in around 1-2 songs that are decent.
