If you want to keep the lights on next time the lights go out get yourself a generator. Word of advise hire a electrician to install a bypass circuit so that you can completely safely disconnect from the power grid when you go on generator power. If you don’t install a bypass circuit make sure your not the idiot that tries to power the whole neighborhood by forgetting to disconnect the main circuit breakers.
I have 2 honda generators and recommend them as they are quiet use less gas and are reliable. Depending on the area you live in you may want to invest in a good lock and chain to keep you generator in your yard and not some crooks yard. Gizmodo has a review of a generator I recommend also. [Gizmodo]
