RIAA has surprisingly settled out of court with the 4 students accused of file swapping. They have had to reportedly pay between 12,000 and 17,500 each. If this is any indication of the things to come the Recording Industry will be looking to support it’s lost sales through these types of fines. I think we have only seen the tip of the iceberg and I expect 100’s of thousands will be getting subpoenas. I pity the judicial backlog, lawyers are probably smiling from ear to ear.
Whatever they do will not slow the tide people want a new pricing model one way of the other. [The Register]
