Microsoft has always said it does not spy on your non Microsoft software installations when it is calling home. Some techno-geeks in Europe decided to dissect it and find out what was really being sent home. Seeing we do not subscribe to this particular European premium news service we have not been able to obtain the full report. Some hints in the lead story reveals that Windows Update may be sending more home than what we have all been lead to believe.
“Newer versions of Windows Update send a significant amount of data to the Microsoft update server. Unfortunately, the exact content of the transmission and its relevance to the user’s privacy have up to now not been disclosed” [TecChannel]
