In a move that would piss Americans off, the French will be using a satellite to track the speed of vehicles they detect. They will monitor vehicle speed via a satellite via an installed sensor. If the satellite detects the vehicle is over the speed limit they then electronically reduce the fuel flow of the vehicle to slow the vehicle down.
Can you imagine what most Americans would say if the Government made a such a move. The hand writing is on the wall for the citizens of France. [Tribenet]
Well, I will be surprised if it is ever implemented on any large or meaningful level, but what the hell. If it keeps things like this from happening, I won’t lose any sleep over it. I understand and appreciate the concept of personal freedom, but callous disregard for the lives of others needs to (should) be figured into the equation.
At any rate it is doubtful that it will ever make it into widespread use. The French are fiercely protective of their individual rights and as they have often demonstrated in their political and social process, are more than willing to create as much civil unrest as necessary to preserve it.
