I did this experiment at home and you all can do the same.
“Hey Honey come here, Yes Dear, Hey babe can you do me a favor and count the number of CD-R Decks in the computer, Sure honey let’s see 1-2 I see 2 CD-R Decks in your computer, Ahh yep thats the same amount I counted thanks for helping me with remedial math, No problem honey”
Now imagine your the RIAA and you have just busted a illegal music recording and distribution ring. Then you announce to the world that the Secret Service has taken into custody 421 CD-R burners.. You think wow thats a lot of burners but the funny thing is there were actually only 156 burners that were confiscated. You scratch your head thinking were the heck did these guys learn to count.. Well it seems some of the 156 burners were 40X writers and since they were considered as advanced technology that they and did not represent what is being used in the mainstream they have decided to count the RIAA way. Such that 1 is actually equal to 2 or 3..
Well now I actually pull a CompUSA flier from the newspaper pile and dig thru and low and behold they have 40X CD-RW burners on sale for 49.95 hmmm if you ask me $49.95 is cheap enough to be considered mainstream technology.
I am sure glad my wife and I can count. But these idiots over at the RIAA they need to all go back to whatever school issued there elementary school graduation certificate and ask to be put thru 2nd grade again. [The Register]
I sure would like to inflate my daily hit count score the same way if you blink we are going to count that as 2 hits thanks for not using double the bandwidth though :).
