I know we have all heard the story about someone having a miracle program that speeds up surfing speeds for dial-up users. Well I think a company called Propel may have something going for them. It will be a pay service in which you will utilize their proxy. They will cache your pages and work with your browser to only send content that is not resident on your hard-drive. We all know your browser tries to do this but it pretty much sucks. ZDnet has had a few hardcore dial-up users give it a shot and there is a mixed review.
My concern is this company is going to need cache’s all over in order to really make it work. I can not imagine getting a speed boost if there cache is in New York and I am sitting in Hawaii. Hopefully they will grow to be large enough to have a cache in every major city. This may be the kick in the arm that dial-up needs.
But heck weren’t we all supposed to have fiber to the door by now?
