Every year Displaylink stops by to visit with TPN during CES in Las Vegas, and this year was no different. A company rep visited the set to talk about what is new for 2014.
First up, there is a new chipset, the 5000 series, which can handle 4K video (Ultra HD) over USB. That may sound crazy, but the company has stepped up compression in order to make this possible. It’s a rather complicated process, but it’s explained in the video below. Next, was a new 3950 chipset. This makes possible the ability to expand both Android devices and Chromebooks out to a full desktop, via docking. All of this takes place through adapters manufactured by Displaylink, and the one shown off in the video is expected to retail for less than $90.
