Millions and Millions Served!

On October 9th 2010 the Geek News Central Podcast will be 6 years old. By the time that show airs, I will have produced 617 episodes of the show. I did some math tonight and was quite shocked on how many downloads we have had of the show! Geek News Central is well into the 8 digit territory. I'll be

Android Pros and Cons

I’ve been using Android for a while now and feel I’ve been using it long enough to make some meaningful observations. I like Android. It’s quick. It’s powerful. It has some astounding voice recognition capability built right in that even the iPhone can’t touch. For example, hold down the search button and when the voice search box pops up say

IVI.TV Update Has Been Posted

I added an update to my recent article about IVI.TV.  If you are interested then please check it out here.  There is further information which has been received from the company and some of what I wrote regarding the lawsuit was not entirely accurate. On a side note, I did sign up for the service and have started using it.

Is IVI.TV Legal?

Recently, on the Geek News central Podcast, #610, Todd introduced us to ivi.tv, and also asked if it was legal.  I was intrigued by the prospect, being someone who dumps his DirecTV subscription between football seasons.  So, I decided to take a longer look at both it's capability and it's legality, and here is what I have found. The simplest

GNC-2010-09-24 #613 Alien Conspiracy!

Big Alien Conspiracy announcement on Monday that truly could shake up the government. Listen for details. The better half, told me to lighten up she said I have become robotic. I truly hope you enjoy the show and thanks for staying subscribed. I give you all a little insider look on today's show on how I get a bit wrapped

The Rise and Fall of Blockbuster

When VHS tapes started selling, it was such a big change. Now you could purchase a movie to watch anytime you wanted to However VHS tapes were fairly expensive and fragile, if played over and over again, they would wear out and break easily. Storing them was a hassle, since they took up a lot of space. Plus, there were a lot of movies you may want to see once, but had no reason to keep them. This is the time when the video rental places like Blockbuster began to prosper, it allowed the consumer to rent a movie at anytime. Unfortunately it wasn't always the movie the consumer actually wanted to see. The movies that were available to the average consumer was limited by the size and choices of their local video store.

The Underground Hotel

If you want to get away from it all, then this hotel (motel) room in the Grand Canyon Caverns might be just for you.  Over 200 ft down in a vast underground cavern, you'll be pretty much guaranteed to get an undisturbed night's sleep, even if the bomb goes off.  New for 2010 and situated in a cave 200 ft wide, 400

Wi-Fi Everywhere

I recently travelled from the UK to the USA for a holiday (or vacation). Prior to leaving, I checked how much data was going to cost on my Palm Pre when abroad.  It was an eye-watering £6 ($9) per MB. Yes, per MB.  Needless to say, I turned off data roaming as soon as I left the UK. However, I wasn't

Not Impressed with Google Instant Search

I'm a heavy Google user.  I probably access the Google basic search page four dozen times a day.  I have never missed a Google Doodle (love those!) and Google is my go-to search engine for most things.  When Google Instant Search was announced, I thought, well, that's cool, maybe I'll like that. Now that it's been a couple of weeks,

See You at Blogworld and New Media Expo!

This will be the 5th year my team from RawVoice has exhibited at BlogWorld and New Media Expo. It is where we go put names and talent to faces, and is where we have a chance for us to give back and share our wisdom on where New Media is headed. For those that attend it is 3 days of

The New HP Deskjet 3050 All-in-One Printer

Yesterday HP announced their new line of printers and their is some pretty cool hardware on the way.  The one that caught my eye, and I think will be in my near future, is the HP Deskjet 3050 All-In-One. It's list of features begins with wireless printing, but that's not what sets it apart.  Honestly, you have been able to

Two-Tiered Hotel WiFi may Satisfy Todd’s Need for Speed

Actually, I stopped using hotel WiFi because of this, too. You end up getting speeds slower than a modem and sometimes you are paying $10-$15 a day for it. However, with the cloud looming and people wanting to watch YouTube videos and doing live meetings like GotoMeeting, the average user's need for better speeds is a necessity. The standard 802.11b wifi
