I have a Twitter account. @geekazine is where you can find me. My Twitterverse has been growing steadily for the last couple months. I have been following as much as I have been followed.
Today I went up to my Twitter to accept the newest batch of people. I saw a person on there that really disturbed me to the point that I sent an email to Twitter. Someone thought it would be cool to use the name @ed_gein. They even used his photo for their avatar.
Ed Gein is the infamous Wisconsinite who wasn’t as much of a serial killer, but instead exhumed peoples’ remains to turn into household items. He turned human skin into socks and skulls into bedposts. He did kill a couple people, but most of his victims were already dead. Ed Gein passed in 1984.
Therefore, you can see the angst as someone posing on twitter as the late Gein.
Twitter has shut down other names, like last year someone(s) tried to pose as the group from the AMC show “Mad Men”. I think in this case, they should definitely put down the electronic foot for this profile.
They should also look at some of the other serial killer names like Ted Bundy, Theodore Kaczynski, Jeffrey Dahmer, David Berkowitz and more. Those names should not be readily available for the public.
